What are Core Beliefs in CBT?

CBT stands for cognitive behavioural therapy, a form of talking therapy which helps people who are suffering with mental health problems. It can help to change the way you think about yourself, those around you and the wider world through addressing common underlying problems which might be getting in the way of your success, health and well-being.

During cognitive behavioural therapy, there are often core beliefs which are identified and addressed. These are often the same for many people, and most of them will fit into several distinct categories, such as love and relationships, family, work and self-esteem.

What are core beliefs?

Core beliefs are the beliefs that people have about themselves. These can be negative, such as the beliefs that other people are better than you, or that you’re not good enough for something or somebody. Cognitive behavioural therapy seeks to address some of these core beliefs which can be very limiting to your life and self-esteem.

However, core beliefs can also be positive. You may have generally positive opinions about yourself, with just a few negative beliefs which are getting in the way of your life in some way. Core beliefs are the beliefs that we hold about ourselves, and may be generally negative or generally more positive.

Why understanding core beliefs can help with so many other things

While it’s good to talk about your problems and the things which are stressing you out at the moment, many people underestimate the importance and the value of getting down to the root of the cause. Many problems are caused by core beliefs about yourself that you haven’t even though about, never mind thought about changing.

When you start to think about your core beliefs, your mind will open up to other things too. You will start to think about how your negative thoughts on body image have contributed to your negative opinions of yourself at work or your lack of confidence in the work place. You might find that you behave differently in certain situations or around certain people, and this could be done to experiences you have had in the past or during your childhood which have shaped many of your beliefs.

Core beliefs are a key part of each person’ mind, and in order to fully understand yourself and analyse what you’re thinking, you need to understand your core beliefs first.

Entrepreneurship can be overwhelming

Often, people set out to be entrepreneurs because they have grown tired of making money for someone else. They love the idea of being their own boss, setting their own hours, and not having to share a portion of the financial gains in the end.

People who take the leap and decide they can do this on their own must have unwavering self-discipline and an excellent work ethic for the best chances at a successful enterprise. Once you choose to go it alone, you must be all in. Many of us tend to bounce back and forth, wondering if it is a good idea or not.

This may be the first of many paradoxes you will face as a self-employed business owner!

The cautious part of us doesn’t want to take the leap until a plan is in place and you are 100% invested in the decision. However, we often stand in our own way, over-analyzing every single aspect of a plan. The fact is, you’ll never be able to plan every single step because you aren’t yet aware of all possible variables.

Entrepreneurship can be overwhelming. You aren’t going to be able to handle everything all at once, by yourself. Trying to take care of everything at one time leaves you pulled in every direction and tasks left incomplete. The things that we do manage to complete are often not done to our standards because we aren’t focused or able to commit as much time as we would like.

Our mind wanders, and we end up thinking about all the other duties we should be taking care of right this minute. It’s important to remember to take a single bite from the elephant; don’t try to swallow it all at once.

Erase any thought of failure from your head as well. We become our own worst enemy when we allow thoughts of failure to creep in and take over. It can stop us right in our tracks! As mentioned before, you cannot think of failing with every decision you make and expect to move forward. If you are second guessing yourself, you are slowing down the process of building your business.

A good support system is a must! Make sure the people you have around you offer a balance of support and constructive criticism. There is no room for doomsayers or people who have not bought into your way of thinking. This is your business, idea, and future you’re building. Keep your eye on the prize, push through doubt and don’t be afraid of making mistakes.

As your own boss, you need to employ the same work ethic and devotion you once gave to your employer. If something doesn’t seem to be working as planned, step back and reanalyze your process. Don’t think of it as starting over; it’s merely altering the plan, so you aren’t stalling out. When you get out of your own way, nothing can stop you!

Don’t get overwhelmed by everything you need to know to start your business, take the training “Start  your Own Home Business Step by Step” and get started!

An Entrepreneur Never Hesitates

Never hesitate.

Always taking action is how you should frame it in your mind because that’s a positive instead of a negative.

You should eliminate hesitation from your mindset.

This is the most important thing I can tell you about this. It’s easier to correct a wrong decision than indecision, because a wrong decision will tell you at least, “This way doesn’t work. You should probably look at these other alternatives instead.”

Indecision doesn’t tell you anything. You have absolutely no idea. So it’s easier to correct a wrong decision than it is to correct indecision. It’s actually easier to make a wrong decision right than to get the right decision right off the bat, because you’re usually never right right away. You’re usually close, and then you correct the rest of it to get right on the money.

And speaking of money, money is very attracted to speed.

Money loves speed.

It’s so seductive.

Speed seduces money and says, “Hey baby, want to go out on a date with me?” Money goes to those who act quickly, and so knowing that’s a money magnet you should say, “If money loves to be around people who are quick to act, maybe I should be quick to act. And if I can’t, I have to create a strategy that will then allow me to.”

I like to ask people, “Has there been a time in your life where you absolutely acted immediately and you never hesitated?” And they’re like, “Absolutely.” And I’m like, “OK, so you can do that. Now we just gotta figure out your strategy that gets you in that state of mind so you can take action,” and then we do that.

Do you want to be a waiter? Or do you want to be a receiver? Getting it done and getting some stuff from it.

So don’t hesitate, because you just won’t get anything from it.

The biggest difference between successful people and the norm is their speed of implementation like we were talking about earlier. There’s only a handful of differences that separate the winners from the losers. There’s only those two or three or four daily tasks and their approaches to those, and one of those tasks is winners are very quick to take an idea and turn it into something tangible.

Work harder on yourself than you do on your business; meaning that if these are problems for you, you should be setting aside some time every single day where you’re doing this stuff to

become better at taking action;

to be better at learning how to handle criticism;

to be better at creating undeniable and insatiable desire.

If these are problems for you, you have to handle them. You have to set aside time every single day where you become better as a person with your qualities. So work harder on yourself than you do on your business until you get those qualities that you want. Then you can do anything you want in any business.

The Entrepreneurial Mindset is one of the topics in The Business of At Home Business Membership

Passion is a Trait of the Mindset of the Entrepreneur

We’re going to be talking about your passion your passion for your business.

If you don’t have the passion to get up and do everything every day for your business then you’re in the wrong business so you get out of it.

So let’s look at your passion for your business.

Do you get up every move every morning eager to share your knowledge and skills with others or even just do the paperwork for the business?

Do you feel the desire to get out and do the business?

Do you go and have a belief in your product during your service that you believe so much in and that you’re so passionate about it you’re willing to work extra hours every day; extra hours you can spend with your family but you know that you’re going to be making life better for them if you can get your business going at a better level?

Than you may have the passion to be an entrepreneur.

Unfortunately it is a myth that it’s an easy ride to be an entrepreneur.

It’s a very hard one from one day to the next, you never know where your money’s coming from.

You never know what’s around the corner.

Of course we never do in life as well but it’s not like a job as being an entrepreneur you’re not getting your regular paycheck.

You have to bring in the money to pay  for your business.

So every day you have to figure out “what can I do to get my sales, my leads and my engagement to get the connections with others so that they want what I have to sell” or “what I have as a product or an idea.”

Of course, we’re looking at a home business and whether it is offline or online home business you have to have the passion for it.

You know you have the passion to do that business because:

you have a family to support or yourself to support;

you have to get out there and make the connections;

You have to do the marketing;

you have to do the networking;

you have to do the bookkeeping and other chores of being in business;

but you can leave the bookkeeping when you have the money for it.

You can do some automatic social marketing media for social media and that kind of thing for your offline business online.

But if you don’t have the passion to walk those dogs in your business choice or clean those floors ,if that is your business, or sit at the computer for days then if that’s not your passion then don’t do that.

Which reminds me, for example, I do know how to do bookkeeping and I do some volunteer bookkeeping now.  But luckily, we have a bookkeeper in our business so that I don’t have to do the bookkeeping.  Because any day that I do the bookkeeping, I’m a very crabby person because I don’t like bookkeeping. I could go out there right now and have a bookkeeping business. But I wouldn’t enjoy it. So yeah, if you have any questions about booking e-mail me but I’ll send you on to someone else who enjoys bookkeeping. 🙂

I have the passion for organization and productivity and keeping the business on track and getting everything ready and dealing with customers etc. etc. otherwise we wouldn’t be in this business that we’re in.

So, have a think about when you’re thinking about what kind of business you’d like to start or what kind of business do you have.

Do you get up every day realizing that it’s important for you to have the passion to be organized to be productive so that you can make the money;  make the sales; make the leads; get the engagement that you need for your business?

Do the networking; do the marketing for your business so you get more sales for your business?

Do you have the passion?

So that is the question today on Mindset Monday.

It’s probably not a good idea for you to go into business if you don’t have a certain passion in terms of what you’re doing because being an entrepreneur is a very hard life and it’s a myth that it’s easy.  It does have its pros and cons and you have to be ready to take the challenges on. But you have to have the passion first in order to be get through the challenges and get through the trials and get through the day to day  and make sure that you’re always being successful as entrepreneur.

Passion is a trait of an entrepreneur.

If you aren’t passionate about your business you’re thinking about starting whether it’s Internet marketing or it’s dog walking then don’t do it.

You need the passion.

So that’s an important point I wanted to make.

You need to have passion if you’re in business because you just need it in order to survive.

Self-Sabotage: How to Recognize and Overcome It

If you’re not having the type of success that you want, it is possible that you’re experiencing some self-sabotaging behaviors. And, if you are engaging in these types of behaviors then it’s important to identify what you’re doing and turn it around.

* Playing the Waiting Game – If you ever hear yourself say, “I’ll be do that when xyz” then stop it right now. You may have always done this and not realized it. “When I lose weight I’ll go hiking.” “When I finish this client’s work I’ll write the great American novel.” “When I do x then I’ll do y.” It all makes sense but it’s a waiting game that will never end. If you don’t take action now, nothing will happen.

* You Hang Around the Wrong People – Yes, even as an adult you can choose the wrong friends. If you often find yourself at odds with your friends’ values and goals in life, or find yourself apologizing for other people’s behavior, you’re just making excuses to avoid an uncomfortable conclusion. You’ve outgrown your friends.

* Saying: “I’ll never ….” – Fill in the blank about what you’re never say, do or feel. They say you should, “never say never”, and nothing could be further from the truth. The fact is, if you don’t believe you’ll become successful at your business, or lose that extra weight, you likely won’t. You have to envision the success you want to achieve to make it happen. If all you see is negative, that’s all you’ll get.

* I Don’t Want to Do “It” Alone – The fact is we are all ultimately alone. If you wait around for everyone to be on the same page as you, you may miss out on a great new adventure. Whether it’s starting a business, seeing a movie, or trying a new restaurant, you can do it yourself without anyone else doing it with you.

* Thinking You’re Not “Smart” As…. – The truth is, someone is always going to be smarter, prettier, or something more than you. By saying that you’re not something, you will have a hard time breaking out of the box you’ve put yourself in. Forget about who you think you are, and do what it is that you want to do. No need to be perfect.

* You Hide Your Feelings – When someone asks you a question about your feelings, you simply say “I’m fine” and leave it at that – even when you are not fine. Did you know that you can get stuck in a certain mindset if you avoid it and don’t talk about it? That’s true whether it’s about work or something personal. You have to name it to change it.

* My Client Needs Me – The fact is, everyone is replaceable. If you find that you’re working with someone just because you think they need you, even when the relationship is not working for you, you’re really wasting your time. A client who is not compatible with you will drop you the moment they find someone they’re compatible with. Don’t do anyone any favors unless you really just want to.

* You Lack a Support System – Support can come in a variety of forms, from human support to electronic support. If you set up a good system to help you stick to your schedule (whether it’s for work or fun) and get help when you need it, you will be a lot more successful than if you don’t do that.

Finally, being self-aware enough to notice self-sabotaging behavior will go far in helping you curb it. Give some thought to how you’re running your life so that you can kick self-sabotaging behavior to the curb.

Ten Tips to Stop Procrastination in Its Tracks

One of the biggest factors in getting things done for many people is the struggle with procrastination. Procrastination, according to the dictionary means: “The action of delaying or postponing something.” When you read that definition, doesn’t it strike you as interesting? The word “action” should mean something. When you procrastinate, you’re taking an action, an action that sabotages your ability to do a good job. Why not take action toward success instead?

1. Understand Perfectionism – Many people self-sabotage through procrastination due to wanting everything to be perfect. The problem is that perfect doesn’t exist. The best thing you can do is to do your best on something, but get it done. Done is always better. People who are successful aren’t better than you; they just got it done.

2. Improve Your Self-Esteem – A big issue with chronic procrastinators is lack of self-esteem. Building self-esteem requires that you believe in yourself and ensure that the internal voices are positive. Tell yourself that you can do it. It’s bad enough if you have outside influences that are degrading your worth. Don’t allow yourself to be your own bully.

3. Move through Self-Doubt – Many times procrastination happens because you are questioning yourself and whether or not you’re the right person to do it. You genuinely feel as if you’re not educated enough, or smart enough, or the right person for the job. But, you’ve been chosen for some reason; you may as well do it and learn as you go. Most people learn as they go, even surgeons.

4. Disconnect – When you have things to get done, turn off all unneeded outside influences such as the TV, social media, and the telephone other than some sort of emergency. Of course, you can turn off the phone and check messages every 90 minutes. Most of the time there is nothing you can do in a true emergency anyway.

5. Get Moving – Sometimes if you’re feeling like procrastinating on something, you need a change of scenery. Or if that’s not possible, you need a bust of energy. The best way to accomplish this is to get up and move around. Take a brisk walk, jump up and down, turn on some music and dance for five minutes. Then get back to work with a timer requiring you work for a certain time before you stop.

6. Create a Realistic Schedule – Some people procrastinate because their schedule is not realistic and they’re exhausted. Be honest with what you can accomplish in a given day. People are so busy these days, especially if you have children in after-school activities, elderly parents, or other issues causing havoc on your day. Be realistic; put everything in your schedule so that you really know what you’re up against.

7. Put It in Your Calendar – Once you have everything written down that you need to do, put it in your calendar. Everything including down time should be scheduled for the procrastinator. If you have a night-time routine such as showering, shaving, brushing and reading, put that in your schedule too.

8. Set Up Reminders – Most electronic calendars have the ability to set up reminders and alarms. This can be very helpful to many procrastinators because you know that when that alarm goes off you can do something else. That makes doing the stuff you don’t want to do so much easier to get through, because you get to do something else soon.

9. Be Accountable – It can help to find an accountability partner to assist you with procrastination issues. Set up a way to check in with someone each week to discuss whether or not you accomplished the things you set out to accomplish. This can be a friend, a mentor, or a paid coach.

10. Reward Yourself – When you get through a day doing everything on your list, give yourself a reward of some sort. You can earn points and cash in the points to do something fun. It’s better to have an experience such as a massage than to reward yourself with food.

Procrastination is often really just a sign of believing you need to be perfect, fear of judgement, and doubting that you can do it right. When you set up your day to overcome those internal issues, you can stop procrastination in its tracks.

The Science behind Multitasking

There are some facts about multitasking that have been proven by science. Once you see the facts, you’ll realize that you need to stop multitasking now if you want to truly boost not only your productivity but also the quality of your work.

Brain Splitting

When we try to do more than one task at a time, we really do not focus on the tasks very well. In fact, we focus half on one and half on the other. Remember that switching between tasks isn’t multitasking – it’s switching. Then when you switch back, you have to take the time again to get back on track with what you were doing to start with. (brainfacts.org)

Habits

There is one exception to the above and that comes with developing habits. One good example is driving. When you first start driving you have a hard time steering, working the break, the gas, and paying attention. But, after a while as you gain experience, you don’t even remember the commute home from work. This is because driving becomes a habit. But don’t add in things that keep your eye off the road, or you’ll interrupt the habit. (livescience.com)

Context Switching

Forcing your brain to switch from one thing to another that’s in a totally different context is actually very taxing. It can increase stress, and confusion. If you’ve ever met an “absent-minded professor” type of person, it will seem as if their lights are off when you ask them a question. But, in truth they’re just trying to switch context in their brain.

It takes time to switch, especially if you were focused at first. Doing this over and over, as is the case with multitasking, is very difficult for the human brain to do. It will cut down on not only productivity but also the quality of the work completed. (sciencefriday.com)

Short-Term Memory Issues

Scientists at the University of Michigan and the University of California agree that multitasking can also stress the brain so much that it can cause short-term memory problems. If you find yourself not being able to remember things, and have important issues falling through the cracks, consider whether or not you are biting off more than you can chew and trying to do too much at once.

There Is No Such Thing as a Good Multitasker

Researchers at the National Academy of Sciences (NASS) conducted studies that showed that even people who believe they are “good” at multitasking, and do it every day, are bad at it. Not only that – the people who actually do multitask most are reducing their productivity by about 50 percent by continuing to multitask.

People who believe they are bad at multitasking try to avoid it, but people who think they’re good at it consider it a skill. One, ironically, that they’re actually not good at.

Children Do Poorly at Homework While Watching TV

Homework, studying, and TV don’t go together. In fact, anyone (including students) should find ways to focus 100 percent on anything they want to learn and retain. Just getting it done while watching TV, texting, and doing other thing costs students dearly in terms of understanding subject matter and test performance. (NASS)

It all comes down to the fact that if you want to do something right, you need to focus on it 100 percent. You’ll increase productivity and produce a higher level of quality than you can if you’re insistent on multitasking. The bottom line is, focus, and learn how to do your best at each thing you do.

The Truth about Multitasking

Multitasking is a myth that has come to an end. Doing too many things at once does not improve productivity, and doesn’t make for high quality work or experiences. It can cause a lot of stress on individuals and cost businesses money. The problem is, many people still see multitasking as a virtue. You’ll even see job descriptions that say “must be an accomplished multitasker.”

This is a huge mistake. Why do you think there are so many mistakes at the drive thru these days? Go observe how these employees must work. They have to listen to the order, input it into the computer, while counting change for another person at the checkout while also getting drinks for the next order.

* There Is No Such Thing as Multitasking – People think they are multitasking but all they are doing is dividing their time between different tasks at the same time. Thus they are giving less attention to each task, which can result in more stress and less positive results in everything they do.

* Trying to Multitask Makes You Crazy – Not only will it reduce your IQ during the time you’re trying to multitask, it will also make you feel as if you can’t do anything right. Our brains aren’t made for multitasking in the manner we try to do it these days.

* It Reduces Productivity – Many proud multitaskers think that they can do so much at once, and get more done. However, studies show a reduction up to 50 percent in productivity when you multitask. This is huge when you consider how much more you could get done if you just focused.

* It Lowers Quality – People who multitask may think they are doing a good job, but it’s been proved (as Forbes.com has reported) that the quality is reduced by up to 40 percent when multitasking and not focusing on one thing at a time.

* It Causes Stress – Anyone who has a job that requires multitasking, or who forces multitasking on themselves by trying to divide their focus, will experience stress and feel as if they have no down time. For example, try turning off your phone when with your family. Your heart will thank you.

* It Can Be Life Threatening – The stress that builds up when multitasking and doing everything essentially half way can actually affect your health. If you want to avoid high blood pressure and stomach issues, stop trying to multitask.

* It Makes You Forgetful and Absent Minded – On a good day, most people have trouble to remember things without a calendar. But if you are trying to multitask, you’ll notice that you have trouble with short-term memory.

* You Can’t Experience Life Fully – Honestly, you want to live your life in such a way that you can be proud that you’ve done the best that you can do. It doesn’t matter if it’s work, home life or other relationships with friends; giving each your all while you’re with them is important.

If you have a habit of trying to multitask when you are working, spending time with your family, or just watching TV, try to find a way to concentrate on just one thing at a time instead. See if you don’t do better, feel less stressed out, and get more out of it too.

Self Doubt Is Understandable, But Crippling

Even the most confident person you can think of has an occasional bout of self doubt. The trick is to recognize it for what it is and then get on with the business of being successful.

That’s how successful entrepreneurs beat the self doubt plague. Consistent self doubt is as crippling as clinical depression and you may soon find yourself in a rut that’s difficult to extract yourself from.

As a fledgling – or seasoned entrepreneur, you have a lot riding on your ability to stay focused. Your ultimate level of success and satisfaction with your chosen career depends on it.

It’s imperative that you develop the resilience to overcome self doubt you’re sure to experience and replace that negativity with other thoughts designed to build your confidence rather than bringing it down.

Self doubt can cause indecision and procrastination – both lethal detriments to your ultimate success. Yet, every challenge you face in your quest as an online entrepreneur brings with it old hauntings from your mind that may prevent you from overcoming the challenges and achieving your goals unless you can get a grip on them and see them for what they are – lies.

The higher you climb on the ladder of success, the more self doubt you’re likely to have. What can you do to alleviate some of these obstacles and direct your energy in a more productive manner?

It begins in your mind and progresses to taking action as you learn you really are capable of facing and overcoming any challenges that come your way. First, you should know and be comforted that you’re not the only person (successful or not) who has suffered from self doubt along the way.

Acknowledging that others have felt as you do and became successful in spite of self doubt can alleviate your worries and help you get past the feelings more quickly. If you haven’t already set some personal and business goals for yourself, do it immediately.

It’s part of the plan that you’ll use as the map to the magic kingdom of success. It’s perfectly okay to set lofty, long-term goals. Just make sure you set attainable, short-term goals, too – so you can experience success in small increments along the way.

Short term goals are important because they provide continuous realization that you are moving along quite nicely and are well on your way to meeting those long term goals. It lets you bask in the sunshine of the smaller wins, while waiting for the big payoff at the end.

Some things will happen along the road to success which is beyond your control. It’s important that you recognize this and keep from blaming yourself. In all lives, a little rain must fall. Be prepared in every way you can and press onward to your goals.
