What are Core Beliefs in CBT?

CBT stands for cognitive behavioural therapy, a form of talking therapy which helps people who are suffering with mental health problems. It can help to change the way you think about yourself, those around you and the wider world through addressing common underlying problems which might be getting in the way of your success, health and well-being.

During cognitive behavioural therapy, there are often core beliefs which are identified and addressed. These are often the same for many people, and most of them will fit into several distinct categories, such as love and relationships, family, work and self-esteem.

What are core beliefs?

Core beliefs are the beliefs that people have about themselves. These can be negative, such as the beliefs that other people are better than you, or that you’re not good enough for something or somebody. Cognitive behavioural therapy seeks to address some of these core beliefs which can be very limiting to your life and self-esteem.

However, core beliefs can also be positive. You may have generally positive opinions about yourself, with just a few negative beliefs which are getting in the way of your life in some way. Core beliefs are the beliefs that we hold about ourselves, and may be generally negative or generally more positive.

Why understanding core beliefs can help with so many other things

While it’s good to talk about your problems and the things which are stressing you out at the moment, many people underestimate the importance and the value of getting down to the root of the cause. Many problems are caused by core beliefs about yourself that you haven’t even though about, never mind thought about changing.

When you start to think about your core beliefs, your mind will open up to other things too. You will start to think about how your negative thoughts on body image have contributed to your negative opinions of yourself at work or your lack of confidence in the work place. You might find that you behave differently in certain situations or around certain people, and this could be done to experiences you have had in the past or during your childhood which have shaped many of your beliefs.

Core beliefs are a key part of each person’ mind, and in order to fully understand yourself and analyse what you’re thinking, you need to understand your core beliefs first.

Entrepreneurship can be overwhelming

Often, people set out to be entrepreneurs because they have grown tired of making money for someone else. They love the idea of being their own boss, setting their own hours, and not having to share a portion of the financial gains in the end.

People who take the leap and decide they can do this on their own must have unwavering self-discipline and an excellent work ethic for the best chances at a successful enterprise. Once you choose to go it alone, you must be all in. Many of us tend to bounce back and forth, wondering if it is a good idea or not.

This may be the first of many paradoxes you will face as a self-employed business owner!

The cautious part of us doesn’t want to take the leap until a plan is in place and you are 100% invested in the decision. However, we often stand in our own way, over-analyzing every single aspect of a plan. The fact is, you’ll never be able to plan every single step because you aren’t yet aware of all possible variables.

Entrepreneurship can be overwhelming. You aren’t going to be able to handle everything all at once, by yourself. Trying to take care of everything at one time leaves you pulled in every direction and tasks left incomplete. The things that we do manage to complete are often not done to our standards because we aren’t focused or able to commit as much time as we would like.

Our mind wanders, and we end up thinking about all the other duties we should be taking care of right this minute. It’s important to remember to take a single bite from the elephant; don’t try to swallow it all at once.

Erase any thought of failure from your head as well. We become our own worst enemy when we allow thoughts of failure to creep in and take over. It can stop us right in our tracks! As mentioned before, you cannot think of failing with every decision you make and expect to move forward. If you are second guessing yourself, you are slowing down the process of building your business.

A good support system is a must! Make sure the people you have around you offer a balance of support and constructive criticism. There is no room for doomsayers or people who have not bought into your way of thinking. This is your business, idea, and future you’re building. Keep your eye on the prize, push through doubt and don’t be afraid of making mistakes.

As your own boss, you need to employ the same work ethic and devotion you once gave to your employer. If something doesn’t seem to be working as planned, step back and reanalyze your process. Don’t think of it as starting over; it’s merely altering the plan, so you aren’t stalling out. When you get out of your own way, nothing can stop you!

Don’t get overwhelmed by everything you need to know to start your business, take the training “Start  your Own Home Business Step by Step” and get started!

An Entrepreneur Never Hesitates

Never hesitate.

Always taking action is how you should frame it in your mind because that’s a positive instead of a negative.

You should eliminate hesitation from your mindset.

This is the most important thing I can tell you about this. It’s easier to correct a wrong decision than indecision, because a wrong decision will tell you at least, “This way doesn’t work. You should probably look at these other alternatives instead.”

Indecision doesn’t tell you anything. You have absolutely no idea. So it’s easier to correct a wrong decision than it is to correct indecision. It’s actually easier to make a wrong decision right than to get the right decision right off the bat, because you’re usually never right right away. You’re usually close, and then you correct the rest of it to get right on the money.

And speaking of money, money is very attracted to speed.

Money loves speed.

It’s so seductive.

Speed seduces money and says, “Hey baby, want to go out on a date with me?” Money goes to those who act quickly, and so knowing that’s a money magnet you should say, “If money loves to be around people who are quick to act, maybe I should be quick to act. And if I can’t, I have to create a strategy that will then allow me to.”

I like to ask people, “Has there been a time in your life where you absolutely acted immediately and you never hesitated?” And they’re like, “Absolutely.” And I’m like, “OK, so you can do that. Now we just gotta figure out your strategy that gets you in that state of mind so you can take action,” and then we do that.

Do you want to be a waiter? Or do you want to be a receiver? Getting it done and getting some stuff from it.

So don’t hesitate, because you just won’t get anything from it.

The biggest difference between successful people and the norm is their speed of implementation like we were talking about earlier. There’s only a handful of differences that separate the winners from the losers. There’s only those two or three or four daily tasks and their approaches to those, and one of those tasks is winners are very quick to take an idea and turn it into something tangible.

Work harder on yourself than you do on your business; meaning that if these are problems for you, you should be setting aside some time every single day where you’re doing this stuff to

become better at taking action;

to be better at learning how to handle criticism;

to be better at creating undeniable and insatiable desire.

If these are problems for you, you have to handle them. You have to set aside time every single day where you become better as a person with your qualities. So work harder on yourself than you do on your business until you get those qualities that you want. Then you can do anything you want in any business.

The Entrepreneurial Mindset is one of the topics in The Business of At Home Business Membership

Passion is a Trait of the Mindset of the Entrepreneur

We’re going to be talking about your passion your passion for your business.

If you don’t have the passion to get up and do everything every day for your business then you’re in the wrong business so you get out of it.

So let’s look at your passion for your business.

Do you get up every move every morning eager to share your knowledge and skills with others or even just do the paperwork for the business?

Do you feel the desire to get out and do the business?

Do you go and have a belief in your product during your service that you believe so much in and that you’re so passionate about it you’re willing to work extra hours every day; extra hours you can spend with your family but you know that you’re going to be making life better for them if you can get your business going at a better level?

Than you may have the passion to be an entrepreneur.

Unfortunately it is a myth that it’s an easy ride to be an entrepreneur.

It’s a very hard one from one day to the next, you never know where your money’s coming from.

You never know what’s around the corner.

Of course we never do in life as well but it’s not like a job as being an entrepreneur you’re not getting your regular paycheck.

You have to bring in the money to pay  for your business.

So every day you have to figure out “what can I do to get my sales, my leads and my engagement to get the connections with others so that they want what I have to sell” or “what I have as a product or an idea.”

Of course, we’re looking at a home business and whether it is offline or online home business you have to have the passion for it.

You know you have the passion to do that business because:

you have a family to support or yourself to support;

you have to get out there and make the connections;

You have to do the marketing;

you have to do the networking;

you have to do the bookkeeping and other chores of being in business;

but you can leave the bookkeeping when you have the money for it.

You can do some automatic social marketing media for social media and that kind of thing for your offline business online.

But if you don’t have the passion to walk those dogs in your business choice or clean those floors ,if that is your business, or sit at the computer for days then if that’s not your passion then don’t do that.

Which reminds me, for example, I do know how to do bookkeeping and I do some volunteer bookkeeping now.  But luckily, we have a bookkeeper in our business so that I don’t have to do the bookkeeping.  Because any day that I do the bookkeeping, I’m a very crabby person because I don’t like bookkeeping. I could go out there right now and have a bookkeeping business. But I wouldn’t enjoy it. So yeah, if you have any questions about booking e-mail me but I’ll send you on to someone else who enjoys bookkeeping. 🙂

I have the passion for organization and productivity and keeping the business on track and getting everything ready and dealing with customers etc. etc. otherwise we wouldn’t be in this business that we’re in.

So, have a think about when you’re thinking about what kind of business you’d like to start or what kind of business do you have.

Do you get up every day realizing that it’s important for you to have the passion to be organized to be productive so that you can make the money;  make the sales; make the leads; get the engagement that you need for your business?

Do the networking; do the marketing for your business so you get more sales for your business?

Do you have the passion?

So that is the question today on Mindset Monday.

It’s probably not a good idea for you to go into business if you don’t have a certain passion in terms of what you’re doing because being an entrepreneur is a very hard life and it’s a myth that it’s easy.  It does have its pros and cons and you have to be ready to take the challenges on. But you have to have the passion first in order to be get through the challenges and get through the trials and get through the day to day  and make sure that you’re always being successful as entrepreneur.

Passion is a trait of an entrepreneur.

If you aren’t passionate about your business you’re thinking about starting whether it’s Internet marketing or it’s dog walking then don’t do it.

You need the passion.

So that’s an important point I wanted to make.

You need to have passion if you’re in business because you just need it in order to survive.

James Altucher best advice to a teenage daughter

You can’t lead a horse to water to drink.

This is a great article on Medium by James Altucher about families and entrepreneurship.  As he said, he was always working even when he is young. For me, I was lucky to be in a middle class family so if I wanted something like  my first camera, I did babysitting to save for it.

However, you can tell others what they should do but if they don’t want to do it, they won’t unless they see the value of their Return on Investment (ROI).  By investing the time and energy into going out and telling people about your service and facing the possibility of being rejected,  this can be quite an intimidating step to take for people.

Maybe if entrepreneurship was taught in school (it is in some schools) then young people would be more open to the idea of controlling their destiny by starting their own business.

For you I would recommend reading some books by entrepreneurs on starting their own business like

Read further on how to setup a home-based business or even what kinds of home businesses there are in the world with books like:

Be True to Yourself

The Customer is not always right!

Guest Post by Ken Keis of

Consulting Resource Group

biobox

Opinion: A view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter; belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge; a formal expression of judgment.

Yes, there are times when our clients have concerns to which we need to respond, such as the package arrived damaged or later than we promised. In workshops during the height of the customer-service trend in the early ’90s, I actually taught that the customer is always right—but no longer.

Who has your ear? Who is providing you with feedback?

Several years ago during one of our Assessment Systems Certification Workshops, an individual shared that he did not like CRG’s leveraged affiliate business model. He was so upset that CRG would pay him a fee for his referrals, he asked for his money back on the session. He thought it was unprofessional to honor others with a referral fee.

Note: He was the only person to ask for a refund in over 10 years. His business has always struggled. He means well but he is not respected in the business community as competent businessperson. This is not a statement of judgment but, if I am going to seek counsel, it would be from individuals far wiser, more successful, and more experienced than I am.

Should I change CRG’s business model because of one contrary opinion among hundreds of positive ones? Of course not, but sadly, many people would.

Here’s another example.

One of my colleagues, a member of the National Speakers Association, had just completed a keynote address—1 of about 50 a year for which he is paid a significant sum—when an audience member approached him and started in on how she could help him with his speaking style.   If I wanted your opinion, I would have asked for it!

Is it possible that the speaker does not want to change his style? After all, his style is why the decision-maker paid him a significant amount to speak.

And why did that total stranger think it was appropriate to share her thoughts without asking permission?

It appears that almost everyone has an opinion, but few are qualified to provide one.

Have you changed your business model (or direction of your life) because of other people’s opinions?

What would your life or business look like if you changed it to fit everyone’s (in many cases, unsolicited) opinion? You certainly would not be living your purpose.

That is why the customer is not always right. People have issues and we want to do right by them, but we can’t own their stuff. The research shows that no matter how gifted a presenter you are, about 5% of any audience is not going to like you. Yes, we want everyone to like us, but that’s not going to happen.

About 15 years ago, I stopped using participant evaluation forms with a numeric 1-to-10 measuring format or any mention of the lunch and the facility. I found a high percentage of the group was more interested in complaining about the lunch than addressing the workshop content. The session was about sales, leadership, living on purpose, and so on. The lunch had nothing to do with behavioral transformation!

In one workshop, I got both these comments.

Best presentation on Sales that I’ve attended in my 20 years in this industry
Worst presentation I have ever attended
Whose opinion matters? Neither! In the end, you must feel comfortable in your own skin. That’s why Self-Worth is so important to our success. If we constantly change because of others’ opinions, we stand for nothing.

The “customer is not always right” mindset applies to all areas of our lives.

My point is this: No matter who you are or what you do, unsolicited opinions and comments will be offered. Many will have no merit and should be completely ignored. That includes “well-meaning” family members and friends who are judging the way you “should” run your life or business.

Unless the advisor has a track record of success in the exact area you need, why would you listen?

Here are some examples.

Someone who has no children tells you how to parent.
An individual who has had no success in investing tells you how to invest your money.
A career counselor who dislikes his or her job is counseling you on how to live your life on purpose.
A person who has never been successful in business tells you how you should run your company.
An average or below-average sales rep tells the sales superstar how to improve his/her sales performance.
A marketing specialist who is struggling for business themselves wants you to hire them.
An individual who has never supervised others tells you how to lead a team.
The list goes on…

In the end, you must live your own life and run your own business. Don’t let dysfunctional clients, individuals or uninformed family and friends inject their opinions into your space. Be respectful, but simply say No.

That’s why I stopped seminar evaluations altogether. The only feedback I need is from the decision-maker who invested in my session.

Unless you are one of my trusted advisors, I am not interested in your opinion about my presentations. After 23 years and 2500 presentations, I know myself. I have my own personal style and I am not going to change—nor should you—just because a minority did not like something.

Of course, there are some exceptions, such as feedback from individuals in authority at work and those you trust the most. Even then, make sure you are not being forced to be someone you are not—or expected to compromise your values in favor of another person.

I encourage everyone to stand in your personal and professional space with confidence. You can choose to seek wisdom from others but you must be watchful of the qualifications of your sources.

When you are confident and clear about who and what you are, others’ opinions will no longer impact you. You don’t need validation because you are secure in yourself. And negative feedback will not take you out.

Review the action steps to confirm possible items where you can improve and not let others drive your agenda in life.

 Action Steps
Your Customer is NOT Always Right!

  1. Are you completely clear about what is important to you, in all areas of your life? If not, what do you need to confirm?
  2. Have you allowed unsolicited opinions from customers or unqualified individuals to influence your life and business? If Yes, why have you allowed that to happen?
  3. What has listening to others’ ill-considered opinions cost you in terms of direction, confidence, and success?
  4. Decide this moment that you will not allow ignorant opinions into your personal or professional space. What do you need to change or shift to achieve that objective?
  5. The reality is that if you stand for anything, someone will disagree. If you never have anyone disagree with you, are you living authentically or are you simply trying to please others?
  6. Feedback is an important part of growth; proactively select your group of advisors to  make sure they have a proven track record of success in the area where you seek counsel. Make sure those individuals will tell you the truth—not just what you want to hear.
  7. Set an objective that you will take the necessary steps to mature to a level where the opinions of others do not matter.

To Know Thyself and keep Strong in face of others opinions

  1. To clairify your values and style, complete the CRG’s Values Preference Indicator (VPI) and
  2. the Personal Style Indicator (PSI) to get to know yourself better so you are less influenced by others.
  3. To understand how your level of self-worth is affecting your success, complete theSelf-Worth Inventory.
  4. To help you understand your tendencies and what is important to you, read Why Aren’t You More Like Me?“!

Your life or business is your own to live.

Until next time, keep Living On Purpose.

Always Be Positive

Be Awesome

Develop Positive Habits the Easy Way by Using Choice Bias

Choice bias is the reason why the same sandwich tastes better when you order it off a menu compared to when someone else picks it out for you. It’s also an effective tool for teaching yourself good habits.

Studies have shown that our preference for making our own choices can be used to reinforce learning.

Changes in brain activity make us more likely to repeat actions that lead to rewards. This is especially true when we’re in charge of the prizes. Learn how to use choice bias in your everyday life and get the results you want.

How to Use Choice Bias in General

1. Pick your own rewards. Use what you love and turn your virtuous actions into habits that will become ingrained in your character.

You might be motivated by a special dessert or an extra hour of sleep on Sunday morning.

2. Be flexible. On the other hand, now you know that choice bias is basically an illusion.

That gift certificate your boss is offering you for working on a holiday is just as valuable as the one you’d select for yourself.

3. Recognize your own power.

Even if you feel powerless, there are choices available to you. You may be unable to change your circumstances, but you can change your response.

4. Limit your options.

As much as we love choices and rewards, you can have too many of them. Trim your list down to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

5. Act quickly.

Strengthen your lessons by acting quickly. It’s okay if you treat yourself to both a pedicure and a car wash. Prompt reinforcement helps your brain make more powerful associations.

6. Repeat and repeat.

Forming new habits requires sustained effort. Fortunately, that means you’ll get to enjoy even more rewards.

How to Apply Choice Bias in Specific Situations

1. Step up your parenting.

You may remember your mother asking if you wanted to eat your carrots and broccoli, or just your broccoli. Choice bias works with children as well as adults.

2. Advance your career.

There may be long stretches of time between raises and promotions. Give yourself a pat on the back with fresh flowers or a new book each time you complete a training course.

3. Reinvigorate your business plans.

Maintain your spirits if you’re struggling with starting a new business.  Give yourself a break occasionally. Show yourself a good time on a limited budget with free movies from your local library or a walk through the park.

4. Make housework more fun.

Do you procrastinate when it comes to cleaning the toilet or mowing the lawn? You’ll start looking forward to your least favorite tasks when you know that there’s a reward afterwards.

5. Stick to your diet.

Snacks are easier to resist when you have a variety of nutrient dense foods in your meal plan. Try vegetables from every color group to help you get all the required vitamins and minerals.

6. Quit smoking.

Giving up tobacco is the most important health decision you can make. Studies show that multiple strategies can increase your chances of success. Wear your nicotine replacement patch and attend support groups while you entice yourself with attractive rewards for staying away from cigarettes.

7. Exercise regularly.

Are you having a hard time talking yourself into climbing on the treadmill each afternoon? Your workouts will seem more pleasant if you alternate among yoga, running, and swimming.                           Variety is the key!

Channel the power of individual choice and make it work for you.

5 Powerful Mind Success Strategies

5 Powerful Mind Success Strategies

Building a business is a fantastic and challenging experience. You can wake up exhilarated to begin your day and go to bed feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. The key to success is to maintain a positive, yes you can do it, mindset.

Easier said than done, right? Here are 5 keys to help you create and sustain a positive mindset so you attain the success you desire.

1. Surround yourself with successful and positive people. The influence people have over our own personal energy is amazing. Moods and attitudes are so easily spread – think about how much of a difference a simple smile from a stranger can make for your day and then magnify it 1000 times to demonstrate the power of positive and successful friends, family and associates. When you have people around you who inspire you, believe in you and want you to succeed, there’s no room for doubts and even when they creep up, they’re quickly swept away.
2. Create a mantra or an affirmation. Repeating positive affirmations has been shown to get people through tough times and to actually help them truly believe what they’re saying.
For example, “I am building a powerful and profitable business.” Many of the most esteemed business professionals have used the same affirmation strategy to attain their success. To find the right affirmations for you, consider writing a quick list of your doubts, insecurities and complaints. These can then be quickly turned into affirmations.

For example,

if you write that you’re always feeling disorganized then your affirmation would be, “I am organized and in control.” Repeat your affirmations several times a day and feel the power of positive thinking.
3. Capture negative thoughts. We all have negative thoughts from time to time, however, negative thoughts and emotions can derail us and prevent us from achieving all we desire. Of course catching those negative thoughts takes practice and persistence. When you find yourself thinking negative thoughts or having negative emotions, find a trigger to turn them around. The affirmations mentioned above are a great way to turn the negative into the positive. You can also find quick pick me ups like a favorite song, a walk outside in the fresh air, or some exercise to help improve your mood.
4. Set goals/intentions and then be willing to let it go. The law of attraction says that we attract what we focus on the most. However, desperation, needing your business to be a success, sends mixed messages and a lot of negativity into the universe. Set your goals and intentions and then let them go. A certain amount of faith in yourself and in the power of attraction is necessary. Give it a try.
5. Be grateful. Gratitude is perhaps the single most powerful and positive tool for success. When you’re grateful for all of the wonderful things and people in your life the challenges you face seem significantly less important and are more easily dealt with.

Consider keeping a gratitude journal and make a practice of entering into it daily. That way, when you’re facing challenges a quick peek at all the amazing things in your life will make you feel as if you can tackle anything. Additionally, an attitude of gratitude helps you maintain a positive perspective and to face challenges as opportunities rather than obstacles.

Success is within your reach and with the right attitude you can accomplish anything you set your sights on. Embrace these five powerful mind success strategies and you’ll build a better business and live a happier, more satisfying life.

5 Secrets of Successful Home Business Entrepreneurs

Successful home business entrepreneurs are not born; they’re made. They make themselves successful by practicing certain habits. Without these habits, it’s nearly impossible to weather all of the storms you’ll face running your business.
Here are 5 of the secrets of entrepreneurial success.

They’re Passionate

The best home-based businesses are driven by passion. The entrepreneurs behind them do what they do out of love and not purely a profit motive. Success is easy to achieve if you love what you do. Each failure along the way, no matter how monumental, will be just a minor bump in the road. Your passion for what you do also allows you to put in the long, crazy hours your business will sometimes demand of you.

They Focus

One of the major challenges, especially for new home-based businesses, is staying on course. There are so many ways to market and make money online that it’s easy to be led astray by shiny objects. Most home business entrepreneurs’ brains are brimming with new ideas, and these can also get you off track. You may end up spreading yourself too thin and never achieving results with any one thing that you do. Instead, focus on one goal at a time and don’t start on the next idea until you get results.

They Don’t Make Excuses

Successful home business entrepreneurs never whine or make excuses when things go wrong. They take responsibility for keeping their business running and work out their problems to make that happen. For example, let’s say that you spill coffee on your keyboard, your 5-year-old has a nervous meltdown, and you need to spend the afternoon taking care of emergency car repairs. Life may be a mess today, but your clients and customers don’t want to hear about it. It’s unprofessional to make excuses.

They Keep Growing

Although you might want to put your home business on autopilot, there’s simply no such thing. Once you attain a comfortable level, it’s time to start defining your next goal. Successful entrepreneurs never stop growing their businesses. To them, it’s always a work in progress. Find a new segment of the population to market to; develop new products that your current market can use; branch out and get into a whole other business.

They Expect to Succeed

Your home based business will always have its highs and lows, but when you expect to succeed at the end of the day, you can take whatever adversity comes your way. For successful entrepreneurs, success is not an option; it’s THE option. There is simply no other possible outcome in their game plan. Make the decision at the very beginning of your home business journey that you will stay focused on success no matter what happens along the way.

If you’ve read the above list and you’re thinking, ‘That doesn’t sound like me,’ don’t give up yet.

Remember that all of these are mindset habits, and you can create new habits if you work at it deliberately. Not everyone can be a home- business entrepreneur, but everyone can become one if they truly desire to. Try the “Be Your Own Boss Quiz” and see what you think about yourself.
