What a week!

persistence I wrote this post below for on Google Plus (www.plus.google.com/u/+Jane.Gardner ) about my week.   However, the idea of Persistence, as a quality of being a person in your own business, will be one I will talk about a lot.   Personally, I feel anyone can have their own business if they either already have these traits or they have the will to change their habits so they can become a boss instead of working for a boss!

Hope

Just like in Shawshank Redemption, an entrepreneur has to be able to be persistent and be hopeful.

There are many challenges to the Entrepreneurial lifestyle.  If you can’t get through those challenging times, you won’t be successful in your business.  Even those of us who want to be on the internet and serving others or teaching others, there are always issues and obstacles.

You have to fight through those obstacles by always being able to hope ….

Mindset

No one ever said that tools or systems are more important than the creativity of the human mind.

Always remember it isn’t critical to your success to have the most up to date iphone or the latest and greatest tech.

You have to have the strategy and the mindset.

You have to update your  planning for future business.

This is the Takeaway I got from the Mark Traphagen interview of Chris Brogan on “Freaks shall Inherit the Earth” a truly awesome book I would recommend for anyone who is or wants to be in business.

New Project

When starting a new project, I like to say to myself, this is the first day (sorry) of the rest of your life. Doing this project will move you and your business forward.  You may not know where it will lead to tomorrow but today, it is where you are going to start.

Did you notice the +1 and comments on this quote below?

This is a Google+ embedded post from Google+ that I added into the Google stream on November 29, 2014.  I got lots (and for me, this is lots) of comments because people love quotes. People like to identify with ideas and concepts.  This is a great quote!

In fact, I had a project last year of trying out Google+ to see what kind of engagement (people +1, re-sharing or commented on a post ) I got from different posts.  I did a lot of:

  1. Re-sharing of influencers posts
  2. Quotes
  3. Cat” , Lion, Goat pictures
  4. Shared video and pictures from my trip to Sri Lanka
  5. Very informative articles about Googleplus, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter

Which type of post do you think got the most +1 or re-shares for what I did?

Yes, you are right, Cat Pictures.  🙂   No, actually, I had a picture of Buddha carved in ancient Sri Lanka temple that got my most engagement mostly from people in Sri Lanka.

Anyway, I’ll do a case study on what I shared in 2014 in another post but for now, ** – Quotes – people love quotes.

What is Taguchi?

successful businessman reporting vector

Taguchi Method -What is it?

Is it about split testing or multi-testing?

I had become aware of the Taguchi Method when hearing that David Bullock of davidbullock.com was becoming a Faculty member of Directions University.

I said “huh?”  Then i went out to the internet to find out more about it.

Testing Wisdom

On David Bullock website, he mentions that the Taguchi Method “allows for accelerated testing without having to run and validate all combinations of a landing page system.”

So, for internet users, instead of using a simple split A/B test where you have only two different landing pages or sales copy or any other element on your website, you can choose more elements.  Of course, more elements to test means more work and more confusion.

Ode to Taguchi

According to Chris Sietsema at Ode to Taguchi, Taguchi was a Japanese-born statistician who designed a method to test multivariants of an element initially for manufacturing products.  In plain terms, it is a statistical model that can find the combination of elements that produce the best results.  Chris Sietsema has a great illustration about how testing different combinations of elements and using the Taguchi formula you can find the best results.

Free Resource

He also provides a link to a free resource called   Blair Gormans Taguchi Based Ad Comparator where you can test up to simultaneously test up to 15 different aspects of any advertisment, website, or email campaign. Take it for a spin!

David Bullock, a  Taguchi Ad Optimization Specialist, will be on Traffic and Lead Generation Masterclass this week to talk about Testing and Targeting and Converting traffic into sales. if you want more sales, it is worth the investment to hear him talk about Testing!

Traffic

stuck at the light

What’s the secret to having a successful Website?

If I knew that I would be a billionaire but I am not. 🙂

However, after being on the internet, checking out offline marketing and online marketing,  there are a few common themes.

  • You need traffic to your website.
  • You need to get your traffic to become subscribers.
  • Then get your subscribers to become customers.

Easy peasy ,no.

There are many companies on the internet saying they will show you how to convert traffic to subscribers and I think that shows the need for the ability to convert subscribers to customers.

So, if looking for someone helping with traffic strategy, one of the Gurus is David Bullock at davidbullock.com who is now a Faculty Member at Directions University,
says
More traffic is not the answer. Traffic is only one of the critical components in your online selling strategy.

Most businesses spend huge amounts of time and effort to get the visitors to their site. But then what?

The expensive visitor has arrived… and nothing happens. No next step is taken. No opt-in. No sale. Nothing

The answer for David Bullock is testing and tracking your online sales which few businesses are aware they need to do.

With his testing methodology, he can increase conversion rates by 300%.

Directions University is excited to have David Bullock on their Faculty and on the upcoming Traffic and Lead Generation Masterclass to talk about Testing and Tracking your Traffic. You can find information on this MasterClass at Traffic and Lead Generation Masterclass.

Babyboomers have knowledge and management experience!

+Washington Post had great article on how BabyBoomers are the  wave of the future for Business.
According to the Kaufmann Foundation
” in every year from 1996 to 2013, Americans in the 55-to-64 age group started new businesses at a higher rate than those in their twenties and thirties. And the trend is building. Those ages 55 to 64 started 14 percent of all new businesses in 1996 but nearly 24 percent of them in 2013.”
There is no substitute for Knowledge and Experience.
According to the article,
” There are hordes of young founders in Silicon Valley, some of whom drop out of school to start their companies. Venture capitalists collectively invest billions in them. The vast majority of these start-ups fail, however, because there is no substitute for experience and knowledge. “
Venture Capitalists, listen up, we are the future of business and We should be invested in!

Mobile Marketing is here!

According to +Think with Google Study, there are myths about how Mobile Marketing is working right now.

Google, Ipsos MediaCT and Sterling Brands research study from March to May 2014. Survey conducted among 6,000 smartphone users aged 18–54 who have influence in the purchase decision-making process of retail, CPG or tech products and have used the internet to look for shopping-related information.

+Think with Google , Google and Ipsos Media survey found that there are certain myths how people are using smartphones to shop.
Over 50% of people surveyed would check in Google Search on phone for:
1. Price of item in store
2.Availability of item in store
3. Closest store with item in stock
4. Check out what other items are in the store where item is available!
Hello! Looks like people are searching while in the Store so make sure you have lots of information about your specials, product availablity, store hours, location and map. As people are making decision whether to come to your store on phone and when they are in your store, they are looking for more things to buy!

Good lesson for businesses online or offline, if you aren’t mobile responsive and mobile ready, you are losing unknown business!
